General
The ProDAQ Flexible Modular Data Acquisition System is designed to reduce the cost of
developing and building Data Acquisition and ATE Systems. ProDAQs unique, high-density,
modular system concept will significantly reduce the size and cost of VXIbus based Data
Acquisition and ATE Systems by offering savings in the number of VXI modules and VXI
chassis needed within a system.
The ProDAQ 3180 Ultra-performance Motherboard is fully backwards compatible to the
previous ProDAQ Motherboards, so that all existing function cards can be used. As
the previous motherboards, it accepts up to eight different function cards in a single
slot module to provide any function or combination of functions required for a specific
application. If needed, a large number of single functions can be fitted within a single
VXI slot. For example:
- Up to 384 Digital I/O channels
- Up to 192 ADC channels
- Up to 128 DAC channels
Alternatively up to eight different functions can be combined. The function cards can be
factory-fitted within the module to a user-defined configuration or can be field-fitted
by the user to change, enhance or upgrade the module or system.
VXIbus Interface
The improved VXIbus interface of the ProDAQ 3180 is compatible to the VXIbus Standard VXI-I
Rev 3.0 and supports the 2eVME protocol, which allows for backplane transfers at data rates
of up to 160 MBytes/sec (theoretically). Depending on the Slot-0 Controller used, the ProDAQ 3180
can sustain data transfers with up to 100 MBytes/sec.
DSP and Memory
The ProDAQ 3280 TigerSHARC DSP plug-in and the ProDAQ 3214 DDR2 SDRAM module can be installed
as options on the motherboard. The TigerSHARC DSP runs at 400 MHz, providing unmatched 4800 MMACs
of 16-bit performance and 3600 MFLOPS of floating-point performance. Paired with 512MB or 1GB DDR2
SDRAM with sustained data transfer rates of more then 500 MBytes/sec, It offers real-time
capabilities for local data processing, control loops or event handling. The DRAM can be used to
gather/scatter data from/to the function cards to further optimize backplane transfers. ProDAQ 3180
modules installed in the same VXIbus mainframe can communicate directly to each other utilizing a
high-speed serial link protocol on the VXIbus local bus.
Calibration Reference
The optional ProDAQ 3202 Voltage Reference can be added to the ProDAQ 3180 Motherboard to provide
additional self-test capabilities and allow the calibration of function cards "on-the-fly".
